This new Christmas cantata for 2022 is designed to touch the hearts of both performers and audience.
Who was Mary? Who was Joseph? How did those around them react to the news that Gabriel told Mary? How could their lives ever be the same again? This insightful and inspiring church cantata, new for Christmas 2022, is perfect for your choir or group of any size. The story begins with Mary’s delightful relationship with her sister and then her betrothal to Joseph. When Mary is alone the Angel Gabriel comes to her and the world is forever changed. Think of the courage it took for Mary to tell Joseph and her parents the news. She was to be the mother of God’s son – the Messiah. Through narration and song we experience the magnificent account of Mary and Joseph’s journey that culminated with Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. Beautiful solos, duets, quartets and choral numbers segue smoothly from one to the other as they tell the story that leads up to the wonderful "Night of Glory" when Jesus, the Savior was born.
Songs include:
Closer Than Kin to Me, Gabriel’s Greeting, I Must Believe, Mary, Why?, In God’s Hands, Rejoice, Sing out My Soul, Joseph’s Dream, A Love Forever, Heaven Came Down, and A Night of Glory Finale.
Short on soloists? No problem. Virtually any of the solos, duets and quartets can be sung by simply reassigning parts using small or large groups of singers from your choir. We strive to offer uplifting Christmas Cantatas, Church Cantatas, and Christian Cantatas.

To more fully utilize your choir you may wish to have multiple performers sing the various solo lines. For instance, the second song in the cantata (Closer Than Kin to Me) is a duet. If you don’t have soloists that can hold their own, or you wish to give more singers an opportunity, then Mary’s part might be sung by several women standing together in a group and the same for Mary’s sister. Those singers could step forward, one group to the left and one to the right. The narration prior to the song establishes that Mary came from a loving family and had a good relationship with her sister. No added harmony is necessary and the effect will be a positive one.
This same concept can be used throughout the cantata whenever the music calls for a soloist in any of the songs.
The entire work can be performed by a relatively small ensemble of singers. Of course, it can also be done with a large choir as well. The choral arrangements are SATB.
